Making over 100k from LinkedIn and creating an online course

I’ve been using LinkedIn for business since the mid 2000’s. Whilst many others discounted this network, preferring instead the more glitzy and slightly cooler networks like Twitter and Facebook. I pursued all of them, trying to work out where they all benefited my business and me personally. I can hand on heart say that when it comes to business, linkedIn has generated more than the rest of the networks put together. But thats purely because I’m active and pro-active with it.

Over the last few months I’ve been working on an online course which I’ve just launched on a popular e-learning platform called Udemy.

Udemy only allows vetted people to become instructors and deliver courses. There is a strict process to ensure that only qualified and capable people deliver courses. They check the quality of everything from the video and sound, to the manner in which you deliver the courses feeding back at all times so as to ensure the best quality material on their site.

What made me put this course together?

Over the last 5-6 years I’ve been delivering face to face LinkedIn training sessions for our clients. These have ranged from sales teams looking to increase leads for their business through to directors of multinational businesses who have a job to be seen as thought leaders in their industry. I’ve also taught under graduate and MBA students how to use this platform to increase their own chances of employability or getting an idea to market.

Over the last month or so I’ve been busy taking those sessions and recording them into an online version of the course which is split out over 41 different lectures (a few minutes per video) including the following:

  • Introductions to Social Selling, LinkedIn and My own Journey with the platform
  • Creating a profile that really sets you apart from others
  • How to get the most from Groups
  • Using the tool to generate sales leads and build relationships
  • Tips and Tricks I’ve picked up over the years

This isn’t just some course that I’ve thrown together to try and make some money, its 5 years of running the same material time and time again, always improving it from the feedback I get from my delegates. Last month LinkedIn completely redesigned their user interface so the development of this course came at a good time to launch as I was able to create it using the new platform – something others haven’t had as much time to do. This seems to be fairly unique and I guess I’ve been quite lucky due to these timings.
